Al-Atta announces the signing of the hanging train contract

    The Governor of Baghdad, Muhammad Jaber Al-Atta, Minister of Planning Khaled Battal, and Minister of Transport, Nasser Hussein Al-Shibli, signed today, Sunday, the minutes of a joint agreement to start the implementation of the hanging train.

    In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Atta said, "This project is one of the strategic projects in the transportation sector for the Baghdad governorate, and its implementation has been delayed for technical and administrative reasons, and we are serious during this period of overcoming all obstacles and problems to start implementing it."

    He added that "the funicular length of 22 kilometers starts from Al-Kadhimiya and ends at the central markets of Al-Sha`ab with 14 stations and a capacity of 30,000 passengers per hour, with a work of more than 16 hours per day, and it is part of the comprehensive transportation system for the capital, Baghdad," referring to "There is an intention to add another line that starts from Al-Bayaa and to Karrada."

    The statement quoted the Minister of Planning as saying, "The Ministry of Planning supports the hanging train project, which represents a quantum leap in the services provided to the people of the capital and provides 10 thousand job opportunities, in addition to other opportunities after its operation, which will be completed by the French Alstom and Korean Hyundai company with inviting investment companies to complete The rest of the sections, respectively.

    In turn, the Minister of Transport stated, "The meeting included discussion and study of the project and the stages that the Baghdad governorate began," adding, "This record will be presented to the attention of the Council of Ministers as soon as possible."
