The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee revealed the goal of the visit of the Commander of the US Army Central Command, General Kenneth Mackenzie, to Iraq.
Member of the Committee, Representative Kati al-Rikabi, said in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA): The visit of McKenzie to Iraq aims to discuss the recent parliamentary decision that obligated the Iraqi government to remove foreign forces from Iraq, including the American one, pointing out that "Washington seeks through direct visits." To its officials to work to persuade Iraq to rescind the decision to remove foreign forces. "
Al-Rikabi stressed that "the House of Representatives cannot reverse this decision after it became the absence of any justification for the presence of foreign forces on Iraqi soil." He called on "government officials not to listen to the American side in this regard."
The commander of the US Army Central Command, General Kenneth Mackenzie, arrived on Wednesday 5 February 2020 in Baghdad on an official visit.
On January 5, Parliament voted on a resolution requiring the government to end the foreign military presence in the country.
