Counter-Terrorism to INA: We were assigned to a limited-period of Sovereign facilities protection

Counter-Terrorism Unit spokesman Sabah al-Numan stated to Iraqi News Agency - INA that unit has been assigned to protect sovereign facilities since the start of the demonstrations, after receiving information indicating that some of the infiltrated elements were trying to destroy and sabotage the sovereign facilities.

“Although we are concerned with protecting the country and preventing any infiltration taking place with the neighbouring country Syria. Yet, we are monitoring developments during the ongoing demonstrations," said al-Numan to INA.

He added that the unit assignment to protect the sovereign facilities in places far from the place of the demonstrations since October 25, and for a limited time after noticing the stable security situations.

"The counter-terrorism unit is concerned with combating and monitoring terrorist groups and crimes, as well as extremist terrorist intellectual expansion programs and money laundering,” the spokesman added.
