President Barham Salih confirmed the need to develop friendly relations and cooperation between Iraq and the United States to serve the supreme interests of the two countries as well as to enhance security and stability in the region.
His Excellency received the United States’ Special Envoy for Syria James Jeffrey and the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller, at the Presidential Office in Baghdad, Sunday, July 7, 2019.
The President indicated the importance of adopting positive dialogue among all parties in order to resolve the lingering issues and crises in a manner that helps solidify the foundations of global peace.
President Salih articulated that Iraq has sought to pursue a balanced policy with everyone aimed at converging views of the countries of the region in order to reduce the current tension.
His Excellency stressed on the importance of finding a political settlement to the situation in Syria and ending the suffering of brotherly Syrian people as well as assisting them to address terrorism with an emphasis that our priorities are to protect Iraq's security, stability and sovereignty.
For his part, Mr. Jeffrey reiterated the U.S. keenness to consolidate relations with Iraq in all fields.
The U.S. official renewed his country's desire to expand means of joint cooperation and coordination on dossiers and issues emerging at the regional and international levels.
