German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Sunday that Berlin does not want Ukraine to use long-range weapons provided by the West to strike Russian territory.

"We carefully check all the requests we receive, but for us there is a principle that we share with the American president, we do not want the weapons we supply to be used to reach Russian territory," the adviser said in a summer interview with ARD TV when asked why.
He added, "Germany does not provide German-Swedish long-range cruise missiles, and at the same time, Germany does not recognize Crimea, the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson provinces, as Russian regions."
On June 29, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that his country should be ready to supply long-term armament to Ukraine, expressing his hope that the conflict would be resolved quickly.
Speaking to Germany's Erste TV channel, Scholz said: "We must be ready to supply weapons to Ukraine for a long time."
The German Chancellor also indicated that if supplies stop after 3 or 6 months, Germany will not be able to contribute to supporting Ukraine in the long-term.
