Speaker of Iraqi Parliament Muhammed al-Halboosi met the UN representative to Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, on Thursday.
During the meeting, they discussed the political updates in the country, and the need to choose a government cabinet within the constitutional times, a cabinet that meets the demands of the Iraqi people.
They also discussed the efforts of the Parliament to proceed with the legislation of the new election law, and implement it in a way that enables Iraqis to vote in a transparent and more acceptable way as it allows all people to access Parliament according to the system of the highest votes, and stress the importance of restoring confidence in the electoral and political process.
For her part, Plasschaert assured supporting the efforts of the Parliament in this area, and the willingness of the United Nations to provide assistance in order to achieve international standards in the election mechanisms in accordance with the new law.
