Minister of Labor Discusses with Japanese Ambassador Developing the Skills of Job Seekers

INA, Baghdad-

Iraqi minister of labor and social affairs, Basim Abdul Zaman, discussed on Wednesday with the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq ,Mr. Naofumi Hashimoto, matters of cooperation and skill development for job seekers.

In a statement issued by the ministry, copy of which received by INA, quoted Abdul Zaman as saying that ‘the ministry turns much of its attention to job seekers who are registered in its data base by getting them engaged in vocational training programs in various fields and subjects’ pointing out that ‘the ministry graduates over 10,000 trainees in all specializations and is supposed to provide the right environment for them to be absorbed into labor market.’

The minister added that ‘the ministry started a new study on labor market in order to introduce new skills and activities in the fields of Solar Energy and Innovations addressing people with special needs’ explaining that ‘the ministry is willing to cooperate with Japan through Japan’s International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to prepare a mechanism for project execution which relies on the ministry’s data base for job seekers so as to provide them with the required experiences and skills that qualify them to enter the labor market.’

The Japanese Ambassador expressed his country’s willingness to cooperate with the Iraqi ministry in the desired fields, particularely at the level of vocational training and employment, the statement went on saying that Japan is already investing in a number of fields in Iraq, especially in relation to infrastructures in the electricity and water supply sectors.
