President: National Interest by Enhancing ties with Neighbours, International Actors

    INA – BAGHDAD

    President Barham Salih asserted that Iraq is keen to establish balanced ties with the countries of the world on the basis of mutual interests.

    This came during his meeting with a delegation representing the US Senate, in Baghdad, Thursday.

    The US Senate delegation included Rep Sen. Mitt Romney and Dem Sen. Chris Murphy in addition to the US Charge d'Affaires to Iraq Joey Hood who attended the meeting too.

    “The countries of the region should realize that the stability of Iraq is a common interest,” said President Salih.

    He indicated that the national interest requires strengthening relations with the neighbouring countries and the international actors on the Arab and international arenas without being bias to a specific party.

    Salih also stressed the importance of developing bilateral relations and promoting ties of cooperation in various fields to serve the common interests.

    The President praised the United States’ role within the international coalition against terrorism and its contribution to support the Iraqi security forces, be it in arming or training.

    For their part, members of the visiting delegation reiterated that the United States’ standing by Iraq and backup the country to enhance stability and peace, as well as its support for Iraq in all areas.

    The meeting also reviewed the latest political updates and developments at the regional and international levels.
