INA - Baghdad

Ministry of Water Resources announced on Wednesday the Volume of water stored (from floods and rain in Iraq this season) has exceeded 32 billion cubic meters in all dams and lowlands of the country.

Jamal Abbas al-Adili, Water Resources Minister said to Ina: “the volume of water today exceeded 32 billion cubic meters in all dams of the country; including Haditha Dam on the Euphrates River (which received small quantities of water; as they were used by Syria to fill up their dams). The up-river of the Euphrates in Turkey still holes water amounts no less than 20 billion cubic meters; which Iraq is anticipating to arrive after the snow melts”.

Dr. Adli went on to say: “Al-Therthar Lake holds now 50 billion cubic meters, the Dukan Dam- 6 billion cubic meters, Darbandikhan Dam (back into service after safety checking)- more than 2 billion cubic meters, the Himrin Dam- 3 billion cubic meters, in addition to al-Adhaim- which holds plentiful amounts of water”. He assured that.. ”the reserved water in these dams and others are enough for this year and the next”.
