    Baghdad, INA-

The General Traffic Directorate announced on Monday the four specifications that will qualify a newly registered vehicle to be included by the condition of installing a natural gas system in accordance with the oil ministry decision.

In an exclusive statement to INA the spokesman of the directorate, Brigadier General Ammar Walid, said that: “the decision to commit vehicles with the installation of a natural gas system was supposed initially to cover all newly registered vehicles. But because of the impossibility of implementing the decision, and because of the huge number of newly registered cars, and also because it impacted a wide sector of the Iraqi community, the subject was reconsidered by joint committees formed by both the directorate and the Oil ministry. A new decision was concluded to which limits the application to vehicles with certain specification only before being provided with the natural gas system.

‘the oil ministry,’ the spokesman added, ‘is the responsible body authorized with declaring the decision and put it into effect, assisted by the Traffic Directorate as a supporting device in controlling and observing the application of this system.

‘There are four specifications, and conditions, to be available in a newly registered vehicle before it is included by the natural gas system decision,’ Walid continues ‘first is that the vehicle must be newly registered, namely, it is registered for the first time. Second, the car must be of the saloon type. Third it should be a cab, or a taxi. Fourth its engine must be of the fuel-injection operated type.’
