United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has initially approved to enlist the city of Babel to the World Heritage Site, announced Dr Raad Alawi, the caseworker of the Iraqi Ministry of Culture and Heritage.
“UNESCO will send the experts and archaeologists to follow up this case,” said Dr Alawi.
He also explained that this approval came after years of rehabilitation and reconstruction operations made to the heritage sites by the ministry and other international organizations.
“Among these sites are the Gate of Ishtar, Ninmah and Nabish Khari Temples as well as other ancient heritage sites,” added Dr Alawi.
